Submission Guidelines

Even in the early stages of soliciting articles from various friends one of the common questions that was asked was regarding guidelines for article submissions. Far from being one to put a limit on what what can write on, there are some general guidlines that need to be kept in mind when submitting.

Write and submit the article in plain text. What you enter will be interpretted literally by the submission page. More goes on then you can see. It will turn any thing that is a normal HTML tag into breaking character combinations. And then place where you hit return will be turned into a break tag. My suggestion, use notetpad (for you windows users) with word wrap on to write your article. Then just copy paste it into the submission form. Add the little bit of extras, then submit it. There will be some minor editting, depending on the editor URLs in an article *might* be turned into links, but I make no guarantees. You want to add emphasis, use character equivalents. *Bold* words, or _underline_ words. Otherwise just write your article.

There is a practical limit on the size of the article. Try the normal submission method first, whether you think it won't or not. If, when we get it on the other end, it's been cut short, then we will contact you via the email address supplied and ask for a text file to be sent via email. Any other articles sent via email will be ignored and automatically rejected. There are proper channels to follow and clogging our email with article submissions when a page is provided for that doesn't make us like you too much. As far as how short, it doesn't matter so long as you can convey a complete topic or idea within the space that it takes.

Content is a little harder. One thing I *will* say, is that gratuituous use of "bad language" will result in a rejection (possibly an edit or a request for a re-write if we think the piece still has potential). Yes, I do use profanity on occassion. No, I don't agree with it's use in everyday language. There is such a thing as a proper time and place for profanity. Use it not at all or sparringly.

Avoid anything overly sexually explicit. I'm sure that fiction material will eventually be presented to us. I plan to add a new topic for fiction in the near future. Sex may very well be a part of such stories and in some cases will be a part of articles written with a pagan (or some such variety) perspective that is more comfortable with sex then others. I would prefer if it was kept clinical without the use of slang. I have no idea what the level of any given reader might be, nor from what background they will be coming from and I do not want to remove any piece based on threatened legal action. It is in our best interest and yours to keep the site up and running.

I would prefer if articles are not just repeats of information someone has written somewhere else. I would like new materials. Things written just for the community here. This includes the "classics" of magic. We will be making an effort to acquire by legal means translations and electronic reproductions of such writings whenever possible. If you have the legal right to provide such materials, give any of us an email and we'll see what we can work out. Otherwise, make it your own words and experiences. The more personally related it is, the better. It's nice to see how magic and beliefs affect the people that use/have them.

Alright, enough of what *not* to send. Topics that we want cover any area of magic. If there isn't currently a topic to cover your submittal, don't worry. Once a large enough number have shown up we will make a new topic and move those articles into that category. The topics that we currently have are Ritual Magic, Energetic Magic, Philosophy, Metaphysics, Humor (tasteful, please), Altered States, General Magic, and Psichism. I'll give a brief breakdown of what each topic covers. If you think your article doesn't fit well then put it in a General Magic. Or leave it blank and we'll place it to the best of our abilities.

Ritual Magic covers most of your usual ceremonial magical circles. If it has a specific procedure and uses tools then chances are it would fall into this topic. I don't know that I could go into this more then that. Energetic Magic is any magic workings that are not reliant on ritual. Etherics, energetic healing, etc. More direct magics. Philosophy can be either personal philosophy (code of honor) or it can be more global philosophical ideas expressed in your own words. Socrates, Neitzsche, and any number of other authors are likely to appear somewhere prodominantly in one's works. Metaphysics was originally going to be "Religion", but I don't like the connotation that makes. It should certainly give you an idea what is covered in this topic. Humor is funny haha, not funny hehe. Altered States is meditation, self-hypnosis, etc. I'm sure we'll get some chemo-gnosis articles eventually. I don't mind them if they are intelligently written with examples, not generalizations. I can *not* allow to be published to the database anything that encourages someone to commit an illegal act, so please make an article on such a topic avoid suggestion that one should do the same (I will be strict on this point), even though I don't particularly disagree with drug use or chemo-gnosis in magic. Psichism is anything to deal with "psichic" phenomenon. Things that focus around the power of the mind. Telepathy, clairvoyance, empathy, and the harder sciences like telekinesis. Anything that falls in these topics is allowed.

If you think an article is worth submitting that doesn't fall into one of those topics, then type the name of the topic you would like into the suggested topic field when submitting and we'll give it consideration. The current topics were designed with being extended in the future in mind. That includes making sub-categories when the articles get beyond an easy level of searching by the generic topic.

If you're unsure about anything contact one of us and we'll square you away.
