This website has a companion IRC channel on the DALnet servers. There are of course some rules that indicate proper conduct. The main rule that needs to be remembered is: "More magic, less BS". What does this mean? Simply put, if you want to discuss magic in an adult and intelligent manner, you're more then welcome. So, what is BS? BS is petty mind games and power plays. I don't care one bit about your need for attention, desire for acceptance, ego boosting, religious/spiritual intolerance (intolerance is intolerance no matter what side of the fence you're looking at it from), magical intolerance, or desire to get your jive on with anything that will say it's female online. It obviously encompasses a greater idea then that if you're smart enough to stop and think about it. I assume some kind of intelligence level and the ability to grasp abstract concepts.

So, with this in mind, some general rules that will help you get the idea of what the channel atmosphere should be like.

1. Pick a nick. We like to know who we're talking to. We know not everyone is an IRC wizard, but the process isn't that complex and most people in channel will be more then happy to help a beginner with IRC.

2. Don't be vulgar. There's an acceptable and inacceptable use of profanity and "dirty words". There are some times when nothing expresses your feelings better then "I don't give a fuck", but using such words repeatedly is just plain rude. So just keep it in check.

3. Don't put down other's beliefs. I don't care if you are the reincarnation of Crowley himself, no one has the right to debase someone else's beliefs. This is a point I am particularly picky about. We're about magic, not ego gratification BS. There is no "one right way" for magic. Even the more ritualistic magicians will have to agree to that.

4. No sex talk. I don't care about your libido. I don't want to hear about who or what you are doing sexually in your spare time. You want to intelligently discuss sex based magics, that's cool, but keep it in check, cause I can guarantee there will be under-age people present and I don't want to deal with the shit involved with that.

5. An ops word is final. Don't beg. Don't plead. Don't argue. You feel like contesting a decision, email me or an SOp after you've had some time to calm down and we'll settle it then. Arguing with an op will just upset them more. And long strings of expletives at an op will not speak in your favor when I review the situation.

6. No fighting. Arguing, debating, discussing, or pontificating, fine. Back up your arguments with facts or experience. You read it? Tell us *where* you read it. You experienced it? Tell us when, tell us how. Give examples. Otherwise it'll turn into some childish back and forth "No I'm not", "Yes you are" BS that I won't deal with.

7. Check your ego at the door. Don't lie to us. Don't ever, ever lie to us. There's no reason for it. We respect casters of all levels. Beginner on up to advanced. If you've just started, don't presume to tell us that you're a master, because your knowledge (or lack there of) will shine through eventually. I will treat everyone the same in channel, regardless of magical knowledge, experience, or "status". I expect the same respect in return.

8. Have fun. Don't be a dick and you can pretty much just enjoy yourself. Discussion doesn't (and won't) always have to be about magic. But the point of the channel is to share your magical journey through life and by it grow stronger from other's experiences and help others to grow by yours, whatever path you choose to walk.

Those are some general guidelines. Drop in and see what the channel is about. It's really not that hard to be comfortable. Eliminate the BS and you have a channel that is for the benefit of all casters. Where everyone can be equal. I invite you to join us anytime in the future that you feel like.
